Body Weight Skull Crushers

Skull Crushers have long been a favorite tricep builder for all lifters. In fact, when you
think of your top 3 exercises to train triceps, I am confident that a skull crusher of some
variation will crack your top 3. Barbell or dumbbell skull crushers are undoubtedly the
most popular variations, but have you ever tried Body Weight Skull Crushers?
This variation crushes your triceps, can be modified for most ability levels by adjusting
the height, and it’s practical as it requires minimal equipment. You can actually perform
body weight skull crusher almost anywhere as they can be done with a
table/bench/chair also. Just practice caution.
To effectively hit the triceps, bend only at the elbows. Try your best to keep your body
as straight as possible and avoid bending at the hips. Easier said than done I promise
you.
Make sure to place your hands high FIRST, and gradually increase the difficulty of the
exercise by working your way down as you get stronger. For maximal tricep activation,
train the full range of motion and aim to lower your head below your hands each rep.
Bonus Tip: Once you reach perfect form failure on the skull crushers, immediately go
into close grip strict push-ups with your elbows close to the body to really polish off your
triceps.
